Summer Mocktails & Garden Herbs
Spice your summer drinks with simple herbs from your garden. Herbs are among the plants with the highest nutrient density on the planet. They have a higher concentration of vitamins and nutrients than most vegetables. One of the quickest ways to get these nutrients is to mix them into fruit juices and make yourself an interesting easy mocktail.
Cicero, the Roman philosopher, once said that if you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need. While a herb garden will not provide you with everything you need, it will provide you with a new hobby that will provide you with fresh produce.
So firstly, let’s get you started with your own personal herb garden.
Use Al Rawabi’s juice bottles to pot your herbs and avoid the special terracotta or clay pots unless that’s what you’re interested in. You can recycle the bottles while also reaping new yields from them this way. The most important consideration when gardening at home is drainage. Drill tiny holes in whatever container you use to allow excess water to drain and keep the soil from becoming soggy.
We’ll also need loamy potting soil, which is made up of equal parts sand, silt, and clay. These are designed for potting and should not be used in an open garden. They can be found in a variety of plant nurseries across the UAE.
Let’s get potting now that we’ve gathered all the necessary information!
Many herbs can be grown in the UAE because they thrive in hot, humid climates. Let’s start with the most found herbs in homes: mint, basil, and rosemary, which will always complement your cold mocktails.
Mint
Let’s start with the most basic and widely used household herb, mint. It is an easy herb to grow and should be planted in a large container to allow for its rapid growth. These fresh herbs complement any mocktail you make. Take a cup of Kiwi Lime, add some sparkling water for a little fizz, and top with some fresh mint syrup from your own garden. This cool mocktail is refreshing and will leave you feeling hydrated and rejuvenated.
Basil
Basil is a very thirsty plant. So it’s critical that we provide it with plenty of sunlight and continue to water it after we plant it to keep the soil from drying out. Because they like to be pinched, they can be paired with your mocktails on a regular basis, allowing them to grow. Make a simple syrup out of a bunch of basil. Combine it with a fizzy mixture of Mango Juice and sparkling water to make the Mango-Basil Fizz Mocktail.
Rosemary Mango Juice
Rosemary thrives on cuttings rather than seeds. It grows more quickly in a warm, sunny location. The aromatic flavor of rosemary pairs well with berry juices. Combine half a cup of Lemonade, Apple Juice, and Berry Cocktail with a teaspoon of rosemary simple syrup. This berrylicious mocktail will add some zing to your brunch gatherings.
There are a variety of mock tail recipes like these that you can try with Al Rawabi Fresh Juices and now with fresh herbs from your own garden. More mocktail mixing options, such as those mentioned above and below, can be found on our Recipes page.
